Results of sociological research amongst adults of Kostomuksha made by Antinarkota project are available now. The research took place in August 2002.
The questionnaires suggested 11 questions aimed to find out adults` attitude ton drug abuse problems and ways of solving it, the most reliable sources of information and extent of how well population informed about Antinarkota project activities.
By means of anonymous questioning 595 persons were questioned, who represent almost all layers of population of Kostomuksha.
77% of answered have grandchild or child under 25 years old (which is really dangerous age in drug abuse meaning).
It should be noted that 97% of respondents answered that spreading of drug abusing is a potential danger for everyone despite of his age, education, profession, social status and family.
77% consider spreading of drug abusing the most dangerous factor threatening health of youth under conditions of transition period. At second place alcohol and smoking 43% and psychological stresses at third - 28% (the sum is more than 100% as one could mark several answers).
64% of answered persons consider themselves to be well enough informed in sphere of drug abuse problems. And 28% think that they are poorly informed. Antinarkota project is disseminating information about it and we hope that not youth only will use this possibility.
Opinion of medical worker is considered to be as the most reliable source of information about drug abuse problems (45%). But second place was given to opinion of a person who tried drugs (the most popular source for youth). So it gladdens that adults realize which source is most reliable unlike youth.
56% think that information about drug abuse danger promotes negative attitude to drugs. That indicates right direction of the project working.
One of the most actual questions was about reasons of drug abusing. At the first place was defects of organizing youth time-spending, specialized cultural and sport actions for youth (55%). Defects of our legislation was at the second place (39%) and 34% said social problems of youth as a main reason of drug abuse spreading amongst young people.
More rigid actions of state organs (militia) in sphere of drug abusing are considered to be most effective measure in solving the problem (48%). 44% think that such measure is developing of organizing youth time-spending. And 39% that it may be restitution of status of closed town to Kostomuksha.
71% consider cooperation and experience exchange between municipalities of Kostomuksha and Finland (Kajjani) necessary for successful solving of drug abusing problems.
Adults also know just a little about Antinarkota project, its` aims, actions and content (54%). 46% answered that they wish to get information about project activities.
